Connect with your body and community in this 4-week zoom belly dance class. The theme of this session is "connecting through isolation," both the social distancing kind and the muscular contraction kind.
This 4-week belly dance class is designed for ALL level dancers, even total beginners. Each week will begin with a standing warm-up, then an exploration of a specific technique, and then finish with a combination. We will put all the combinations together as we go along each week, culminating in a short dance by week 4.
I want everyone who needs to take this class to be able to take it. I know money is tight for some right now. Emerge into your new self through dance and movement, as we look forward to spring. This 4-week belly dance class is designed for ALL level dancers, even total beginners. I will adjust each lesson for the dance level of the student. Each week will begin with a warm-up, then an exploration of a specific technique, in meditatively slow mode, and then finish with a ritual-base combination. We will put all the combinations together as we go along each week, culminating in a short dance ritual by week 4. The final week is a one-hour trance repeat of the ritual dance.

Ancestry in Progress: Belly Dance Basics This workshop provides an overview of basic belly dance technique with modern elements. As a level 3 certified dancer with the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance, my foundation is in Salimpour technique with an emphasis on posture, muscular isolations and traveling. Additionally modern dance concepts, layering and transitions, as well as a range of new school tribal fusion stylizations are emphasized. Curriculum can be adjusted to suit total beginners to professional advanced levels.
Old School Tribal: Jamila Technique As a level 3 certified Jamila Salimpour dancer (with the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance) and a performer in Suhaila's current re-enactment of Jamila's original Bal-Anat , I teach Jamila's earthy and powerful movements along with several Jamila-inspired dance combinations. Jamila was one of the originators of tribal belly dance in America and one of the first teachers to solidify a format of terminology in belly dance still used today.
Boot(ee) Camp This dance intensive camp includes Suhaila inspired technique, choreo & combos, yoga and calisthenics. This camp is suited for all levels of dancers from beginner to advanced. Not a dancer? This workshop is also a great way to start off a summer exercise routine and get in touch with your body.
Theatrical Belly Fusion In this interactive workshop, students engage in a variety of theatrical exercises to help get in touch with expressing emotions in dance. Using the Rasa Box technique, dancers explore movement linked with all the major emotions and layer them onto belly dance movement.
Yoga Belly Fusion This workshop offers yoga inspired belly dance movement, including dance combinations inspired by an inner awakening to the divine feminine. This stylization is graceful, with a focus on opening the heart, while executing modern lines and mixing tribal fusion with a yogic approach to dance. Kandice is 200-hour yoga teacher certified.
